Álvaro Fernández, farmacéutico, aclara la verdad: 'Tener colesterol no es malo'
El experto en salud ha querido matizar conceptos y explicar a la gente la realidad tras un componente que produce grandes quebraderos de cabeza
Madrid, Spain – A recent educational video by pharmacist Farmaceuticofernandez has shed light on the often-misunderstood topic of cholesterol, clarifying its role in human health and distinguishing between its beneficial and harmful forms. The video emphasizes that cholesterol itself is not inherently bad; rather, it is a crucial component for building cell membranes and producing essential hormones. According to the pharmacist, the danger arises from an excess of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), commonly known as 'bad' cholesterol. This excess can accumulate on artery walls, forming plaques that narrow the blood vessels. This narrowing can impede blood flow, potentially leading to severe health complications such as strokes, if a blockage occurs in the brain, or heart attacks, if it affects the heart. Conversely, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or 'good' cholesterol, plays a vital role in maintaining cardiovascular health. The pharmacist likens HDL to a 'garbage collector' that gathers excess LDL from the arteries and transports it to the liver for elimination. This process helps prevent the buildup of harmful plaques. He concluded by reiterating that elevated levels of 'bad' cholesterol significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, which remain a leading cause of death globally. The video serves as an important reminder of the need to monitor cholesterol levels and understand their impact on overall health.
