Andalusia's €135 Million Plan to Staff Summer Hospitals
Andalusian Health Service Announces 36,500 Summer Contracts Andalusia's regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, has announced a comprehensive plan to address staffing shortages in its hospitals during the summer months. The initiative, which begins June 1st and runs until October 31st, involves the hiring of over 36,500 temporary workers across various roles. The total budget allocated for this plan is €135 million. "This is 15% more than in 2018," stated Rocío Hernández, Andalusia's Health Minister, highlighting the scale of the effort. The plan prioritizes filling positions in July and August, with 13,000 and 12,000 contracts respectively. The hires will include over 1,000 doctors, more than 12,000 nurses, 10,000 technical and auxiliary staff, and personnel for management, maintenance, and hospitality services. The plan aims to ensure the continued operation of all 1,513 health centers in Andalusia, with 392 centers offering extended afternoon hours and 89 providing telephone consultations as part of a digital health district. This substantial investment demonstrates the Junta's commitment to maintaining essential healthcare services throughout the summer.
