ASEAN's Green Initiative: \$1.5 Trillion Potential by 2030 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – May 29, 2025 – In a recent report, Malaysia's Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, highlighted the immense potential of ASEAN's green initiatives. The minister stated that these initiatives could generate an additional \$300 billion USD in annual revenue from green activities and create a total of \$1.5 trillion in new value by 2030. Minister Aziz emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in realizing this potential. He noted that "the success of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) will depend on strategic financing from banks such as the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank." This collaboration is crucial for ensuring the sustainability and autonomy of ASEAN's energy transition. The APG is a key project in ASEAN's transition to sustainable energy. It involves 18 cross-border energy projects and over 60 new energy sites are planned. According to Minister Aziz, the APG alone has the potential to contribute up to \$3 trillion USD to ASEAN's GDP by 2050, creating 1.45 million jobs across the region. This ambitious green initiative demonstrates ASEAN's commitment to sustainable development and economic growth. The collaborative efforts and strategic financing involved promise a brighter, more sustainable future for the region.
