Landslides in Kapit, Sarawak Prompt JKR Response Kapit, Sarawak – The Public Works Department (JKR) in Sarawak is actively monitoring ground conditions following a series of landslides that have damaged several roads in the Kapit region. The landslides, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, have caused significant disruption to transportation networks. The Member of Parliament for Kapit and Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, addressed the situation in a recent press conference, stating, "Short-term and long-term plans are being developed to prevent similar incidents from recurring during the monsoon season." Among the affected areas are Jalan Song, Sipan, and Temalat, where sections of roads have collapsed, cutting off access to certain communities. Images and video footage show the extent of the damage, with significant portions of roads washed away by the landslides. The minister also highlighted the challenges posed by the hilly terrain and heavy rainfall. "The landslides occurred on roads and in areas under construction, making the situation more difficult. We are working quickly to address the damage and restore connectivity," said Datuk Seri Linggi. The JKR is working to repair the affected roads and implement preventative measures to minimize the risk of future landslides. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by communities in hilly regions during the monsoon season.
