Guinea-Bissau President Embalo's Visit to Malaysia: Strengthening Bilateral Ties Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 3, 2025 – The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation. This marks President Embalo's first visit to Malaysia since taking office in February 2020. His visit is expected to focus on strengthening ties in trade, investment, agriculture, education, and capacity building. The visit also includes discussions on regional and international issues of mutual interest. "This visit is a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between Guinea-Bissau and Malaysia," said a spokesperson for the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President Embalo is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss these key areas of cooperation. The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since November 1974. In 2024, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau totaled RM41 million, with Malaysian exports valued at RM40.4 million and imports at RM0.6 million. This visit is expected to further enhance economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations, fostering growth and collaboration for years to come.
