Millions in Assets Frozen in Corruption Probe
High Court Freezes GBP132 Million in Assets Linked to Former PM's Wife. Kuala Lumpur, June 3, 2025 – In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur has granted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) the authority to freeze assets worth GBP132 million belonging to Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, wife of former Prime Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin. The MACC's application, made under Section 53 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, was approved by Justice Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid. The frozen assets include two commercial buildings in London (St. Mary Axe and One Crown Court), three luxury residences in Bryanston Square, and a bank account with CEF Bank Limited. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that eight investigations have been launched based on new information received from foreign agencies. "The newly obtained information indicates that ownership of Daim's assets, his family, and associates were not declared to the MACC during the 2023 investigation." Azam stated. This case underscores the MACC's commitment to combating corruption and recovering illicitly obtained assets, sending a strong message of accountability.
