Malaysia to Strengthen Social Media Regulations: Ministers to Discuss Online Safety Act Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Malaysian government is taking steps to further regulate social media platforms in the country. Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced plans to collaborate with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said to refine the Online Safety Act (OnSA) 2024. This collaboration aims to improve the effectiveness of the act in addressing the challenges posed by online platforms. Minister Azalina emphasized the need for a multi-pronged approach that involves government agencies, social media platforms, and parents. "This is not just about legislation," she stated. "It's about creating a culture of online responsibility and safety." The collaboration between the two ministers signals a commitment to addressing the growing concerns about online safety and the need for a balanced approach that protects users while fostering freedom of expression.
