Thailand Agrees to Early Flood Warning System
Thailand Agrees to Early Warning System for Dam Water Releases to Prevent Golok River Floods Flooding along the Golok River, which forms the border between Malaysia and Thailand, is a recurring problem. To address this, Thailand has agreed to a new early warning system. Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the agreement, stating, "This is a significant step toward improving cooperation and ensuring the safety of communities along the Golok River." The agreement was reached following discussions with Thailand's Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul. Thailand will now give Malaysia at least three to four days' notice before releasing water from its dams. This will allow Malaysian authorities time to issue flood warnings and take necessary precautions. The initiative is particularly important as the monsoon season approaches in November. This collaboration is a positive development, demonstrating the commitment of both countries to protecting their shared border region and the well-being of their citizens. The implementation of an effective early warning system will undoubtedly help to minimize the impact of future floods, saving lives and reducing property damage.
