Malaysian Village Protests Crematorium Construction Near Mosque
Kampung Raja Uda residents in Klang, Malaysia, are up in arms over plans to build a four-story crematorium adjacent to their local mosque. Azhar Ibrahim, chairman of the Kampung Persekutuan’s development and safety committee, stated that the construction was decided without community input, causing widespread concern. "They only informed us two weeks ago," he said, highlighting the lack of consultation. Residents fear the ash produced by cremations will contaminate the surrounding area, particularly homes within 10 meters of the site. Over 300 protest notices have been sent to the Klang Municipal Council (MBDK) in the past two days. Adding to the opposition, Imam Mohamad Bazari Bin Baharuddin of the Kampung Raja Uda mosque expressed the mosque committee's disapproval of the crematorium’s planned location, less than 50 meters from the mosque. He hopes local authorities will address the residents' concerns. The community is considering presenting a memorandum of protest to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Sultan of Selangor.
