Elderly Abuse Scandal Rocks Bulgarian Village
Six Arrested in Bulgaria for Abuse at Elderly Care Facility Bulgarian authorities have arrested six individuals following a raid on a private nursing home in the village of Yagoda. The facility, which housed 75 residents, including many with dementia and other mental health issues, was found to be operating under deplorable conditions. According to the District Prosecutor, Tanya Dimitrova, "These individuals are accused of multiple offenses, including illegal confinement and causing bodily harm to vulnerable individuals." Police discovered several residents under the influence of drugs, their legs tied up, and living in unsanitary conditions. Eleven residents were hospitalized for treatment. The remaining residents were either taken in by family members or transferred to state-run care facilities. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects face significant prison sentences if convicted. The incident highlights the urgent need for stricter oversight and regulation of private elderly care facilities in Bulgaria.
