Queensland's Clever App Fights Food Waste, Offers Cheap Eats
Queensland Tackles Food Waste with "Too Good To Go" App Queensland is embracing a new initiative to combat food waste and offer affordable meals to consumers. The "Too Good To Go" app connects local businesses with customers looking for discounted leftover food. Danny Mikus, owner of Danny's Bread in Teneriffe, says, "Customers pay about one-third of the normal retail price." This allows businesses to minimize waste and customers to enjoy a variety of food at a fraction of the cost. Joost Rietveld from Too Good To Go emphasizes the app's impact, stating, "Since launching interstate, the company says it has rescued more than 475,000 meals." The app's success in Queensland demonstrates a growing awareness of sustainable practices and resourcefulness. Surprise bags, starting at $5.99, offer a variety of meals, including sushi and pastries. The app, initially launched in Denmark, is proving to be a valuable tool in reducing Australia's substantial food waste, estimated at 7.6 million tons annually.
