Detroit, MI – A family's outing on Fort Street in Detroit turned into a harrowing ordeal on Saturday, July 26, between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, when their van was struck in what appears to be an intentional collision. The incident, recounted by one of the vehicle's occupants, involved a red SUV whose driver exhibited extremely erratic behavior, causing significant damage but, fortunately, no serious injuries to the family. The narrator, who was traveling with her husband and two children (aged 4 and 12), along with her sister and brother-in-law in a separate vehicle, stated that the red SUV initially attempted a U-turn in the middle of the road, then suddenly accelerated into the side of their van. After the collision, the SUV driver fled the scene. However, moments later, the driver returned, continuing to drive recklessly, performing 'donuts' and swerving into traffic, narrowly missing other vehicles and pedestrians. Upon witnessing the driver's dangerous actions, the narrator's brother-in-law bravely intervened, attempting to stop the vehicle. During the confrontation, the driver of the red SUV punched the narrator when she tried to turn off the car's engine, which was still revving with gas leaking. Bystanders were present, with some reportedly recording the chaotic scene. Police and fire services quickly arrived. Firefighters worked to contain the gas leak from the damaged SUV. The driver, identified as being from Kentucky, was arrested, though police noted he was too disoriented to answer questions. Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if substances played a role in the incident. The family is seeking any additional video footage from the public to aid in the ongoing investigation.
