Makeup aficionado Kiki Lee shared her method for cleaning makeup brushes on TikTok.
Charlotte, NC Beauty influencer Kiki Lee recently shared her personal method for deep cleaning makeup brushes in a video that has garnered significant attention. Lee, known for her relatable beauty content, demonstrated a multi-step process utilizing common household ingredients to extend the life of makeup tools. The cleaning regimen begins with boiling water, to which Lee adds baking soda and Trader Joe's Peppermint Castile Soap. "I used to do Dawn dish soap, but now I'm going in with [Castile soap] from Trader Joe's," Lee stated, also noting her past use of vinegar before switching to baking soda. She emphasized the benefits of baking soda for deodorizing and cleaning dirt and grime.Lee carefully swirls the bristles of each dirty makeup brush into the hot solution, making sure "my brush is never fully being submerged into the water. We are only cleaning the bristles." She then transfers the brush to a silicone cleaning mat in the sink for a thorough scrub, followed by rinsing under running water to remove any excess product.A crucial tip shared by Lee involves the drying process. "Do not leave this brush drying up because all of that water is going to rot down and this will come apart," she warned, advising viewers to lay brushes flat on a clean rag. She also reflected on past mistakes, saying, "I used to let them soak longer. I learned over time my brushes were falling apart after a year of having them. That's not necessary." Lee highlighted the longevity of her "Kayley Beauty Luxury brushes," stating they "could last you years upon years" with proper care.
