CAZIN, BA – A recent wedding in Cazin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, featured a memorable and humorous tradition that saw the groom playfully initiated into married life. During the reception, a group of male guests presented the groom with an apron, a headscarf, and an array of cleaning tools, including a broom, mop, sponges, and a duster. The lighthearted ritual, often referred to as "papuča" in some Balkan cultures, symbolizes the groom's new role and responsibilities within the household. The groom, visibly amused, donned the attire and held the cleaning implements as his friends lifted him onto their shoulders, parading him around the brightly lit reception hall to the cheers and laughter of the attendees. "It's a tradition that brings a lot of fun and laughter to the wedding," commented one guest, who preferred to remain anonymous. "It's all in good spirits, showing that the groom is ready to share responsibilities." The event underscored the joyful and communal atmosphere of the celebration, providing entertainment for all present and highlighting a unique cultural aspect of the region's wedding customs.
