Deadly Hit and Run in Chicago Leaves 79-Year-Old Dead, Wife Critically Injured
A 79-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Chicago on Tuesday night, according to Chicago police. The incident occurred at the intersection of Western Avenue and Jackson Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Police say the driver of a black sedan ran a red light, striking a white crossover SUV driven by the victim, Lester Jackson Jr., 79. Jackson's 62-year-old wife, who was a passenger, was seriously injured and remains in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. "It was messed up," said a witness who only gave his first name, adding that he saw the accident. Police are searching for the driver, who fled the scene on foot. Jackson's sister told ABC7 that he was a two-time cancer survivor and leaves behind several grown children. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of staying alert while driving.
