Multiple Teenagers Shot Near Chicago Church: A Post-Prom Party Turns Violent Chicago, IL – May 31, 2025 – A shooting incident near St. Sabina Church in Chicago early Saturday morning left multiple teenagers injured. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of 78th and Throop Streets, directly across from the church's school. According to ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter John Garcia, who was at the scene, Chicago police remained on the scene for most of the morning before clearing out around 5:30 a.m. The shooting reportedly took place near an apartment complex where a large group of teenagers had gathered for a post-prom party. Paramedics transported at least five teenagers with gunshot injuries, all reported to be in fair condition. Police may have also transported another injured person. "It was a large group of teenagers who were gathered for a party," reported Garcia. "Paramedics transported at least five of those teenagers with gunshot injuries." The gathering was explicitly stated to be unrelated to the church. A nearby resident, Tiffani Cooper, expressed her shock and concern, stating, "Some young children got shot. They were here for a party. It got completely out of hand." The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of gun violence in Chicago and the impact on the community surrounding St. Sabina Church, known for its anti-violence activism by Father Michael Pfleger.
