San Francisco's Bay to Breakers 2025: A Colorful Celebration of Running and Costumes Thousands of participants turned out for San Francisco's annual Bay to Breakers footrace on May 19, 2025. The event, known for its vibrant costumes and festive atmosphere, saw a diverse range of participants, from serious runners to those enjoying the spectacle in creative outfits. This year's race featured everything from Oompa Loompas to a group dressed as a Muni train, creating a memorable visual display. Oscar Medina, a San Francisco resident, took first place in the men's elite race. "Being from the Bay and practicing with the hills," Medina said, "I decided to attack the second hill and that's where I had a big gap." Julia Vazquez-Giguere secured her third Bay to Breakers win in the women's race, noting, "It's always just fun to soak up the energy." The event organizers reported a strong turnout, with 25,000 participants, exceeding last year's 22,000. The race, which started at 8 a.m. from Howard and Main Streets, showcased the spirit of San Francisco's unique blend of athletic competition and community celebration.
