Lost WWI Submarine Found Off San Diego Coast After 108 Years

A century-old mystery of the sea has been solved. Off the coast of San Diego, researchers have located the USS F-1, a World War I-era submarine missing since 1917. The submarine was discovered during a deep-sea training dive using advanced imaging technology. "It's the first time anyone has seen the USS F-1 since 1917," said Bruce Strickrott of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, whose team made the discovery. The USS F-1 sank after colliding with another submarine during a training exercise, tragically resulting in the loss of 19 crew members.
