New Orleans Jailbreak: Two Arrested, Manhunt for Five Continues
New Orleans Jailbreak: Two Arrested, Five Still at Large New Orleans, LA – In the aftermath of last Friday's mass escape from the Orleans Parish jail, authorities announced two arrests in connection with aiding the escapees. Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, were apprehended and charged with felony counts of being accessories after the fact. The Louisiana State Police reported that Harris allegedly transported two of the fugitives to multiple locations. Baptiste is accused of helping 19-year-old Corey Boyd obtain food before Boyd's arrest. Sheriff Susan Hutson stated, "If you help them, you will be prosecuted." The statement underscores the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing investigation. Five of the ten inmates who escaped through a hole behind a toilet remain at large, prompting a continued manhunt. The escape itself highlighted security concerns at the jail. A jail plumber, Sterling Williams, was also arrested for allegedly shutting off the water to the toilet, which facilitated the escape. His attorney, Michael Kennedy, stated that Williams "did his job" and was "being sacrificed by the sheriff." The incident raises questions about accountability and security protocols within the Orleans Parish jail system. The ongoing investigation aims to bring all remaining suspects into custody and address the systemic issues that allowed for the mass escape.
