Minnesota Lawmaker Killed, Another Shot: Urgent Manhunt for Suspect
Minnesota Lawmakers Shot, One Killed; Manhunt Underway for Vance Boelter A tragic shooting spree targeting Minnesota lawmakers has left one dead and another critically injured, prompting an urgent manhunt for the suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter. The attacks occurred early Saturday morning, with the first incident in Champlin and a second, fatal one, just 90 minutes later in Brooklyn Park. Police Chief Mark Bruley stated that Boelter "immediately fired upon the officers," leading to an exchange of gunfire before the suspect fled. The victims were identified as State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, who were fatally shot at their home. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot at their residence, but survived. Authorities believe the attacks were politically motivated. The suspect was reportedly dressed as a police officer, wearing a vest, badge, and taser, and driving an SUV with police lights. Evidence found in his vehicle included "No Kings" flyers and writings mentioning the victims' names. A friend of Boelter, David Carlson, described the suspect as someone who "really hated abortion." However, Carlson added that they "hardly ever talked" about abortion. The FBI has released images of Boelter in a cowboy hat and latex mask. The investigation is ongoing, with a $50,000 reward offered for information leading to Boelter's arrest. The incident underscores the rising concerns about violence against elected officials and the need for enhanced security measures.
