Perth Dive Company Faces Investigation After Divers Left at Sea
Perth Dive Company Under Investigation After Divers Left at Sea A Perth dive company is facing scrutiny following new allegations that it left two scuba divers stranded in the ocean. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is currently investigating the incident, which allegedly occurred in March. The ABC has also uncovered two other alleged incidents involving the same company. Anthea, a Perth woman, recounted a 2017 incident where her dive buddy panicked and refused to submerge. She claims their instructor had already gone underwater, and they drifted away unnoticed. "I grabbed her and we turned around, and yeah, I was like, 'We can't swim that, like, that is so far,'" Anthea said. "She was frozen. She was so scared." Noel Ferguson, a fisherman, described a separate incident from about ten years ago near Rottnest Island where he saw a distressed diver waving in the water. He stated, "We drove back to the boat anyway...He looked up, he was on the phone and I said, 'Have you lost something?' and we, like, pointed at her, and he's like, 'Oh f***.'" Perth Diving Academy Hillarys says diver safety is its top priority, and that an internal review has not been able to verify the alleged incidents. The ongoing investigation will determine whether the company's safety protocols were followed.
