Kyrgyzstan's Official Language Law Remains Unchanged: Baisalov Addresses Rumors Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – Edil Baisalov, head of the National Commission on State Language, has firmly dismissed recent speculation regarding alterations to Kyrgyzstan's official language law. In a recent video statement, Baisalov confirmed that the Russian language will retain its official status, emphasizing that this is constitutionally protected. "Plans to revise the law are nonexistent; this is firmly established in our Constitution," Baisalov stated. The clarification follows comments made by Melisa Muratalieva, whose statements regarding the law caused considerable public discussion. Baisalov explained that Muratalieva's words were either "a slip of the tongue" or "taken out of context." This explanation aims to quell any anxieties about potential changes to the legal framework governing official languages in Kyrgyzstan. The stability of the current legal framework ensures the continued use of Russian as an official language, promoting communication and understanding within the country's diverse linguistic landscape.
