Kazakhstan's Fight Against Corruption: New Transparency Measures for Domestic Production
Kazakhstan Tackles Corruption in Domestic Production: A Call for Transparency Kazakhstan is taking steps to address concerns about corruption and lack of transparency in its domestic production sector. The issue came to light during a recent discussion between Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and the head of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken", Raimbek Batalov. Batalov highlighted the need for a clear methodology for assessing raw materials and expressed worry about the absence of defined criteria for Kazakhstani content. He stated, "We need to introduce a transparent system to ensure fair evaluation of raw materials." Bektenov responded by emphasizing the government's commitment to transparency. He stressed the importance of the upcoming register of Kazakhstani producers, saying it will "make the system as transparent as possible and reduce corruption risks." He acknowledged the problem of false producers obtaining certificates, stating, "We know that the current system allows for the issuance of industrial and ST-KZ certificates to false producers, unfortunately including some associated with "Atameken". We must work together to improve this system." The ST-KZ certificate is crucial for participation in government procurement. The meeting ended with Batalov agreeing with the need for reforms. The government's initiative to create a transparent register of producers is a significant step towards combating corruption and promoting fair competition in Kazakhstan's domestic production. This move is likely to improve trust in the system and encourage genuine Kazakhstani producers.
