Heatstroke Cases Plummet During Hajj Thanks to New Infrastructure
The annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia is a massive undertaking, involving millions of people from around the world. This year, authorities have implemented advanced measures to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims, particularly concerning heatstroke. Jallal Al-Awisi, head of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, stated in an interview, "We focus our efforts on reducing heatstroke rates, and we've seen a significant decrease in the number of cases due to the advanced equipment and infrastructure." The improvements include widespread availability of shade and water stations, as well as improved medical response systems. Al-Awisi also noted a significant decrease in heatstroke-related calls to emergency services. The success of these measures demonstrates the commitment of Saudi authorities to ensuring a safe and healthy Hajj pilgrimage for all participants. This successful implementation of preventative measures serves as a model for large-scale events in hot climates.
