Wie die AfD jetzt gegen den Verfassungsschutz kämpft
Die Partei ist nun laut Verfassungschutz „gesichert rechtsextrem“. Sie nutzt dieses Urteil, um sich weiter zu radikalisieren.
Berlin, Germany – Alice Weidel, co-leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group, delivered a scathing critique of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and the current government in a recent speech. Weidel accused the BfV of acting in an ‘unconstitutional’ manner and engaging in ‘political persecution’ against the AfD. She characterized the situation as resembling 'banana republic conditions' and questioned the independence of the agency, suggesting it is influenced by the Interior Ministry. “This is so obvious and transparent, what is happening here,” Weidel stated, holding up documents during her address. “The federal government always presents itself as hyper-moralistic, criticizing other countries, and here, law and order are being violated against a political rival party. This is something I find highly irritating and, above all, unconstitutional.” Weidel further claimed that the public no longer trusts politicians, the media, or the BfV, asserting that people are 'fed up' with the current state of affairs. She specifically challenged statements made by Economy Minister Robert Habeck, implying a double standard in how political systems are judged. “How can it be that a Robert Habeck, an Economy Minister, can simply say, ‘the political system of the People’s Republic of China, I find that quite great’? Where is the Verfassungsschutz then?” she questioned. “We do not have democracy in the People’s Republic of China; we have a one-party system. There are no elections there. And that… that is where the alarm bells must ring. That is where the Verfassungsschutz must intervene.” Weidel concluded by expressing her disbelief that such alleged actions are not being addressed by the media. The AfD has frequently been a subject of scrutiny by the BfV, which monitors extremist activities.
