Four things we learned at the Lib Dems' reliably eccentric seaside conference

London, UK – The Liberal Democrats' 2025 party conference has drawn attention not only for its political discussions but also for its distinctive merchandise stall, offering attendees a wide array of branded items. A recent report from "Alright, Gov?" provided an in-depth look at the available products, ranging from playful to practical. Among the items showcased were Liberal Democrat-branded teddy bears, ice scrapers, and 18th birthday cards. Political figures were also prominently featured, with Ed Davey fridge magnets and mugs bearing the likenesses of Alistair Carmichael and Dr. Danny Chambers available for purchase. The stall also offered a selection of apparel and accessories, including golden yellow bow ties, baseball caps, football scarves in two different colours, lanyards, tote bags, and bum bags. A notable observation was the early reduction in price for yellow balloons. "The balloons here were £13.50. Now they're £8," the presenter remarked. "It's only the first day of conference. I don't know why they're knocked down already." Beyond standard party paraphernalia, the stall also featured items with a historical and literary twist. A mug bearing the slogan "I am a Beveridge" was highlighted, referencing William Beveridge, the 1940s Liberal Member of Parliament known for his welfare reforms. Additionally, books by Peter Black, a member of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and a crime writer, were on sale, alongside a book by Bernie Sanders. The collection was rounded off with practical items such as high-visibility vests. The diverse merchandise selection offers supporters a variety of ways to engage with the party, reflecting a blend of political messaging, historical nods, and everyday utility.
