
Lima Police Officers Released After Vía Expresa Shooting; Investigation Continues
Two Peruvian Police Officers Released from Hospital Following Vía Expresa Shooting Lima, Peru – Two police officers injured in a shooting incident on Lima’s Vía Expresa on May 23rd have been released from the hospital. Colonel Juan Carlos Montúfar, head of the Robbery Investigation Division, and Sub-Officer Miguel Levano were discharged two days after the incident. However, Superior Abel Poma remains hospitalized. "I thank my God that I am alive," stated Colonel Montúfar in an interview outside the hospital. "We are ready to continue fighting against crime. These criminals will not defeat us." The bullet remains lodged in his leg, but he expressed confidence in a full recovery. The shooting resulted in the deaths of two suspected criminals. General Oscar Arriola, chief of the General Staff, indicated that authorities are investigating whether the same criminals were responsible for the earlier murder of Police Sub-Officer Ángel Vellosa in Miraflores. The release of the two officers offers a glimmer of hope amidst the ongoing investigation into these serious crimes.
