Chaos at New Lima Airport: More Flight Cancellations and Passenger Frustration
The new Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru, experienced further disruptions on its third day of operation. Four additional flights were canceled, adding to the previous day's problems. Passengers reported significant delays and frustrations, with some describing long waits at check-in counters and incidents of lost luggage. One passenger, an Ecuadorian national, recounted his experience of lost baggage, stating, "Even my bags were lost. I have to file a claim when I arrive at my destination." Another passenger interviewed highlighted the two-hour delay he experienced in immigration, causing him to miss a connecting flight. INDECOPI, the consumer protection agency, reported assisting around 1400 passengers, a considerably lower number than in previous days, signaling a potential return to normalcy. While the initial problems were related to fuel supply, the current issues seem to stem from airline operations. The airport authorities and airlines are working towards resolving these issues and ensuring smoother operations in the coming days.
