Huaral, Peru - A family in Huaral narrowly escaped a potentially devastating explosion thanks to the quick actions of their pet dog, Manchis. In the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2025, a lit dynamite stick was thrown at the residence of local journalist Alberto Messias Zarate on Angamos Street.Security camera footage, released by América Noticias, shows a shadowy figure approaching the house and igniting an explosive device before tossing it towards the entrance. The family's dog, Manchis, immediately began barking, alerting the household to the danger. Demonstrating extraordinary bravery, the small dog then approached the lit explosive and, in a remarkable act, managed to extinguish its fuse, preventing it from detonating.Police from the UDEX unit were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of an undetonated "Semigelatina 65" dynamite stick with a slow fuse. The device was safely removed, and the case has been handed over to the Criminalistics Unit of Huaral for further investigation.The journalist, Alberto Messias Zarate, is a well-known figure in the province. His family has since requested protective measures, believing the attack to be an act of extortion.
