Holocaust Survivor Accuses Israel of Using Holocaust Memory to Justify 'Genocide' in Gaza
London, UK – Stephen Kapos, a Holocaust survivor from Budapest, Hungary, has publicly condemned Israel's actions in Gaza, asserting that the memory of the Holocaust is being manipulated to justify what he describes as genocide against Palestinians. Speaking at a protest in London, Kapos stated, "Israel is manipulating the memory of the Holocaust ‘as a justification for perpetrating the same in Gaza as a genocide against Palestinians.’" Kapos emphasized a distinction between Jewish identity and support for Israeli policies. "Many, many Jews like ourselves, do not support Israel and its policies, and trying to claim that Jewishness is to do with support for Israel... not only is it a lie, but it actually increases antisemitism worldwide," he explained. He further described the situation in Gaza as "ethnic cleansing by means of genocide," citing heavy indiscriminate bombardment and the destruction of civilian institutions like universities. "It's quite clearly a message that they wish to obliterate Gaza as a place to live at all," Kapos added. He concluded by expressing hope that the growing global solidarity movement would influence governments, including Western ones, to halt the ongoing actions.
