Madrid, Spain – A recent incident at a local automotive workshop highlights the critical importance of thoroughly inspecting used vehicles before purchase. Mechanic Ángel Gaitan, known for his online educational content, uncovered a surprising history behind a black Mercedes-Benz brought in by a father and son for an oil leak. During the inspection, Gaitan discovered not only a significant oil leak but also evidence that the car had been stolen, had a broken window replaced, and was temporarily deregistered. The current owners were reportedly unaware of this past, having recently purchased the vehicle. “It's a shame to see a car like this, so new, in such a state,” Gaitan stated, pointing to the oil-soaked alternator and undercarriage. He emphasized that seemingly minor issues, like an oil leak, can mask deeper problems that could lead to serious mechanical failures, especially during long journeys. Gaitan demonstrated how to clean the affected areas, stressing that a single drop of oil on the ground indicates extensive saturation of the vehicle's underside. He urged car owners to conduct pre-summer checks and insist that mechanics provide visual documentation, such as photos or videos, of any issues found beneath the vehicle.
