La llegada de octubre anuncia que las condiciones del jardín empiezan a ser muy favorables: las heladas ya han cedido, los días se alargan y la tierra
In a recent online video, horticulturist Angel Illescas Nombela provided an insightful comparison of two popular Verbena plant varieties: the hybrid and the creeping verbena, offering valuable guidance for garden enthusiasts. Filmed within a vibrant greenhouse environment, Nombela showcased both types, explaining their distinct growth patterns and ideal applications for various garden settings. He noted that hybrid verbena, with its upright and contained growth, is particularly well-suited for potted arrangements and decorative containers. In contrast, the creeping variety, also known as Verbena bonariensis or Verbena rigida, excels as a ground cover, in rockeries, or hanging baskets due to its extensive spreading capabilities and remarkable regenerative nature. "The creeping verbena has an exaggerated regenerative power," Nombela stated, demonstrating how the plant roots from its joints as it spreads, allowing it to expand significantly over time. He further illustrated this by showing a large, flourishing patch of vibrant purple creeping verbena that originated from a small fragment planted outdoors, having successfully survived the winter season. Nombela also emphasized the importance of consistent watering for optimal flower quality, advising that while the plants can tolerate periods of drought, regular hydration yields superior blooms and a more vigorous display. This practical guidance aims to assist gardeners in making informed choices for their landscaping projects, highlighting the versatility and hardiness of these beautiful flowering plants.
