London, UK – A recent viral video highlights a common household dilemma: the stubborn turmeric stain. What started as a domestic incident involving a cream carpet and a bright yellow spice has turned into a valuable lesson for homeowners everywhere. The video, shared by a homeowner struggling with a significant turmeric spill, quickly garnered attention for its relatable frustration. After initial attempts with standard cleaning methods proved futile, a renowned cleaning expert, Ann Russell, stepped in to offer her invaluable advice. According to Russell, the key to tackling organic stains like turmeric lies in a specific, methodical approach. "The first thing to remember is that organic stains fade with time, but if you're trying to sell your house, probably not quickly enough," she noted. Her primary recommendation is to start by vacuuming any dry powder before introducing moisture. "Don't get it wet, don't get it wet, start vacuuming with a really pokey hoover," Russell advised. Once the dry powder is removed, she suggests rubbing in a dry powder like cornflour or bicarbonate of soda. "Rub it in with a brush, really work it in, and you'll find that as you work it in, it acts like a dry shampoo and it starts lifting the stain," she explained. After vacuuming this powder, the next step is to apply neat hydrogen peroxide, which can be purchased from a chemist. "You just spray it on, give it a minute, and then blot, and just kind of keep going," Russell stated, adding that it's crucial to work from the outside of the stain to the middle to avoid spreading. Russell assures viewers that while a yellow spot might remain initially, it will eventually fade with repeated applications of peroxide and exposure to sunlight. This practical guide offers a ray of hope for anyone facing a similar bright yellow predicament.
