Home Expert Shares Vital Tips for Odour-Free Indoor Laundry Drying Ann Russell, widely recognized as "That English Cleaner Lady," has issued crucial advice on effectively drying laundry indoors, a common practice, particularly during inclement weather. Russell highlighted that improper drying techniques often lead to clothes developing an unpleasant musty odour, attributing this to insufficient air circulation and subsequent bacterial growth in damp areas. In her recent address, Russell demonstrated how tightly bunched or twisted clothes on an airer prevent adequate airflow, leaving portions damp for extended periods. "If you hang your washing like that on an airer, it will probably smell," she stated. She advocated for a more methodical approach: "Shake them out and hang them smoothly." For larger items like sweatshirts, she recommended using coat hangers and hanging them off door frames to maximize exposure. Additionally, Russell suggested placing a fan on the floor beneath the drying clothes to create a gentle "indoor wind," which significantly aids in the drying process without the need for heat. This practical guidance aims to help households achieve fresher, thoroughly dried laundry even without outdoor drying options.
