Russia Tightens Entry Rules for Foreigners: New App and 72-Hour Notice Required
Russia introduces new entry rules for foreign citizens. Starting June 30, 2025, all foreign nationals planning to visit Russia must submit their travel details through the Gosuslugi RuID mobile application no later than 72 hours before their arrival. This measure requires providing information about the purpose of the visit and the duration of the stay. According to the announcement by Asia-Plus, "This new rule aims to streamline the entry process and enhance security." However, there are exceptions for children under 6 years old and individuals holding temporary or permanent residence permits. The application process involves creating a personal account, uploading photos and personal data, and specifying the estimated arrival and stay dates. In urgent cases, such as illness or death of a close relative, the application can be submitted as little as 4 hours before arrival. Upon successful submission, a code will be issued, which is mandatory for entry at the Russian border. The application is valid for 90 days. This new regulation is expected to impact a large number of international travelers to Russia.
