This is the one thing I would NEVER do as a gastroenterologist
A gastroenterologist has made a bold claim about a commonplace bathroom habit - warning that it should be avoided at all costs.
A medical professional, known as AskDrMom, recently shared five types of food she avoids, offering practical health insights for the public. Her recommendations aim to educate individuals on potential food-related risks. Among the foods she cautions against is reheated fried rice, explaining that it can harbor a type of bacteria that produces spores, which are difficult to eliminate even with reheating, especially in a microwave. She advises consuming fried rice immediately or discarding it. Another category to avoid, according to AskDrMom, is food that has been left sitting out at picnics or other outdoor gatherings. She emphasized the high risk of foodborne illness associated with such items, citing numerous cases she has encountered in her medical practice, particularly after holiday weekends. Foods heavily laden with artificial food dyes also made her list. While acknowledging that she might occasionally consume them, she generally avoids them due to their potential negative impact on the body and the temporary, unnatural coloring they can impart to bodily waste. Furthermore, she strongly advises against consuming food from dented cans, unless one personally witnessed the can being dropped and knows it was not compromised before. This is due to the potential risk of botulism, a severe form of food poisoning. Lastly, the doctor highlighted grapefruit as a food to avoid, particularly for individuals on medication. She explained that grapefruit interacts with a significant number of pharmaceuticals, altering how the body processes them and potentially impacting their efficacy or causing adverse effects. She urged viewers to always check for grapefruit interactions if they are taking any medication.
