
Crimean Tatars Revive Ancient Horse Wrestling Tradition
Belogorsk, Crimea, June 3, 2025 – A demonstration of traditional Crimean Tatar horse wrestling took place today. This event marks a significant step in reviving this ancient national sport. The event, held near the Ak-Kaya mountain, brought together enthusiasts and experts from Crimea, Tatarstan, and Dagestan. Seidamet Yagiev, vice-president of the Federation of National Sports and Kuresh Wrestling, stated, "Today, we invited the president of the horse wrestling federation from Tatarstan to help us revive this part of our cultural heritage." Farid Nabiullin, president of the Tatarstan Equestrian Federation, emphasized the historical connection between Crimean Tatars and horse riding, noting their skill as riders. The event successfully showcased the sport and demonstrated the commitment to preserving Crimean Tatar traditions.
