Escapee Sought After Assault Near Sydney Airport

A 28-year-old Tongan national escaped custody near Sydney Airport on May 15, 2025, after allegedly assaulting two Australian Border Force officers who were transporting him from Villawood Detention Centre. Superintendent Simon Glasser of the Cumberland Police Area Command appealed to the public for help in locating the man. "He is described as 28 years old, of Tongan nationality, with a large build, about 180 centimeters tall, and unshaven," said Superintendent Glasser in a video statement released by Australian Community Media.
