Newborn Baby Trafficking Ring Busted in Almaty
Authorities in Almaty, Kazakhstan, have announced the successful disruption of a long-running criminal network involved in the trafficking of newborn babies. A joint operation between the Department of the Committee of National Security and the city's organized crime unit led to the arrest of several suspects and the rescue of a newborn boy. According to the investigation, the group targeted vulnerable women, including foreign nationals, facilitating the illegal sale of infants through social media and messaging apps. "This wasn't a one-time attempt," stated Kuatbek Nauatov, First Deputy Chief of the Almaty City Police Department. "We believe this is a well-established scheme, possibly with interregional connections." The successful operation, culminating in the arrest of the suspects during a staged transaction, highlights the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in Kazakhstan. The rescued infant is now under state protection.
