Medellin Police Arrest "Los Calvos," Gang of Fake Taxi Drivers Who Robbed Tourists Medellin, Colombia – In a major breakthrough, Medellin police have arrested four men known as "Los Calvos" ("The Bald Ones") who operated a sophisticated robbery scheme targeting tourists. The gang, which posed as taxi drivers, operated for over a year before being apprehended. The gang's modus operandi involved picking up tourists in popular areas like Lleras Park and Provenza. Once inside the taxi, they robbed their victims of watches, chains, and other valuables, sometimes using weapons or drugs to subdue their victims. "They would get into the vehicle to transport them to their accommodation, and during the journey, they would rob them of their belongings," explained William Castaño, the local police commander, in a recent interview. The police investigation, which lasted 12 months, relied heavily on surveillance footage and witness testimonies. The footage shows the suspects approaching tourists and subsequently fleeing the scene. Police collected four separate reports from citizens who were victims of the gang's crimes. The successful apprehension of "Los Calvos" demonstrates the effectiveness of sustained police work and the importance of reporting crimes. The suspects are now at the disposal of the Prosecutor's Office, awaiting trial. The incident serves as a reminder for tourists to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings.
