Private Sector and Government Team Up to Tackle Water Crisis in Chitré
Chitré Faces Water Crisis; Business and Government Unite to Provide Relief Chitré, Herrera Province, Panama – The district of Chitré is facing a severe water shortage after heavy rains caused a temporary shutdown of the local water treatment plant. The interruption in service has left many communities without access to potable water, creating a challenging situation for residents. However, a collaborative effort between the private sector and local government is providing immediate relief. Businessman Rubén "Chini" Rodríguez, of Lago Dorado, partnered with Deputy Manuel Cohen Salerno to quickly dispatch water tankers to the most affected areas. "We are here in the yards of our friend Aurelio Begarrial, preparing the equipment to go to the district of Chitré to provide support with the potable water issue, given the crisis that the treatment plant is currently facing," Rodríguez explained. The director of the IDAAN (National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers), Rutilio Villarreal, stated that the plant had to be temporarily closed due to high sediment levels in the water source caused by the heavy rainfall and flooding. Authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and urging residents to stay informed through official channels. The swift response from Rodríguez and Salerno is ensuring that communities receive the water they need while the treatment plant is being repaired. This collaborative effort is a testament to the resilience and unity of the people of Chitré in the face of adversity.
