Minsk, Belarus – October 3, 2025 – A recent social media video has drawn significant attention by illustrating the dramatic increase in consumer prices in Belarus over the past eight years. Local resident K A S T U S’ BRBR filmed himself in a Euroopt supermarket, comparing current prices with those listed in a promotional flyer from October 2017.The video, which quickly gained traction, shows KASTUS examining a Nescafe Classic coffee package. He points to the 2017 flyer, stating, "Coffee, 100 grams... three rubles." He then locates a similar product on the shelf, a 60-gram package of Nescafe Classic, priced at 7 rubles 89 kopecks. This comparison highlights a more than doubling of the price for a significantly smaller quantity.KASTUS also briefly mentioned the "Mandela effect" in relation to coffee packaging, noting that he recalled coffee being sold in iron cans, but the 2017 flyer already showed it in packages. Beyond coffee, the video also showcased price disparities for other staples like sugar and bananas, reinforcing the narrative of rising living costs. The stark contrast between the 2017 and 2025 prices has resonated with many viewers, sparking discussions about inflation and its impact on household budgets across Belarus.
