BELARUS: Spring Sowing Nears Completion Despite Weather Challenges MINSK, BELARUS – Spring sowing in Belarus is nearing completion, exceeding the pace of last year, according to a recent news report. Despite unexpected weather challenges, including periods of frost, over 90% of planned areas have been sown with spring crops. The Ministry of Agriculture reported that dry days and a warm April significantly aided the rapid progress of sowing. "Despite weather surprises, we've managed to sow over 90% of the planned areas," stated Ivan Kaskevich, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Plant Growing at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus. He noted that while some crops sustained damage from frost, the situation remains under control and the technological process is being adjusted based on weather conditions. The report also highlighted that areas dedicated to potato, vegetable, and corn crops have been increased across all regions. The ambitious goal is to harvest 11 million tons of grain. The sowing is expected to be fully completed by May 20th.
