Vitebsk, Belarus, experienced its worst flooding in nearly 60 years on May 26, 2025, due to record-breaking rainfall. 39mm of rain fell in the city, exceeding any recorded amount since 1967. The Vitba River overflowed its banks, turning streets into waterways and submerging gardens. "Such heavy rainfall hasn't been seen in Vitebsk in almost 60 years; it was a real catastrophe," said a local resident in a social media post. The video footage shows cars struggling to navigate the flooded roads, and the river resembling a muddy torrent. Despite the devastation, temperatures remain unusually high, providing a small measure of relief. The city is now assessing the damage and beginning the cleanup process.
