Half Cow, Half Bison: The Remarkable Story of Sultan
In a small village in the Grodno region of Belarus, an extraordinary event took place. A cow gave birth to a calf that is half bison. The calf, named Sultan, is significantly larger than other calves and has a unique reddish-brown coat. The video shows Sultan's distinctive features, including his size and color. Marina Khadaneok, the chief zootechnician of the Sharkovshchinsky agricultural enterprise, stated, "He's unusual, a very large calf." The mother cow died during childbirth, adding a tragic element to the story. The farmers were initially unsure how to care for Sultan, but they are now raising him separately. Experts from the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus confirmed that such hybridization is possible, though rare. The video also highlights the importance of preserving the bison population in Belarus and the challenges they face. Despite the unusual circumstances of his birth, Sultan's story is a testament to the resilience of nature and the dedication of those who work to protect it.
