Belarus' Gomel Region Restores Power After Devastating Storm
Gomel Region, Belarus, Restores Power After Severe Storm A powerful storm swept through the Gomel region of Belarus on June 10th, 2025, causing significant damage and widespread power outages. High winds, reaching speeds of up to 20 meters per second, uprooted trees and damaged power lines, leaving dozens of settlements without electricity. The storm also caused damage to roofs and vehicles. Dmitry Spivak, head of the electric grid services for the Smelevenergo company, stated, "Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our personnel, by 8 am we managed to restore part of the power supply." By morning, only 25 settlements remained without power. The cause of the outages was a combination of heavy rain and strong winds, which resulted in downed trees and power lines, and lightning strikes on the power grid. Emergency crews worked throughout the night to repair the damage. Rescuers and energy workers continued monitoring the situation and clearing fallen trees. By the time of this report, power had been fully restored to all settlements in the region. This swift response demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated emergency services in Belarus.
