Gomel's Night of Museums: Art Students Recreate the Past
Gomel's Night of Museums: Students Recreate Ancient Life Through Art Gomel, Belarus – The annual Night of Museums in Gomel hosted a unique art project on May 17, 2025. Students from the Gomel Art College used artifacts unearthed from a local kurgan to create a portrait of a woman from the past. The project combined historical findings with contemporary artistic interpretation. The students were given various materials, including beads and fragments of pottery, found in the kurgan. One student, Ekaterina Minove, explained, "Based on these artifacts, we aimed to create an image of the person who owned these objects." The resulting portrait is a compelling blend of historical accuracy and artistic vision. The event showcased the creative potential of young artists and highlighted the historical significance of the local kurgan. The project successfully bridged the gap between the past and the present, offering a fresh perspective on local history. This unique approach to museum engagement enriched the experience for visitors and demonstrated the power of art to connect us to our heritage.
