Malaysian Minister Clarifies LPG Issue: No New Supply Control Act Involved
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 9, 2025 – Recent concerns regarding LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) prices and distribution in Malaysia have been clarified by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. Minister Datuk Armizan Mohamad Ali stated in a recent press conference that the issue is not related to the 2022 Supply Control Act, but rather involves amendments to existing legislation, including the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. "The amendments to the PPKB (2021) are the relevant regulations," Datuk Armizan confirmed. The minister's statement aimed to dispel public confusion and ensure transparency regarding LPG regulations. The changes, effective October 15, 2021, aim to streamline the process for businesses, particularly small-scale food and beverage vendors, who will no longer need special permits to use subsidized LPG. The government's proactive approach in addressing public concerns and clarifying the regulations demonstrates a commitment to transparency and consumer protection.
