TikTok's Content Moderation: Creator Loses Two Accounts with 130k Followers
TikTok's Content Moderation Under Scrutiny: Creator's Account Bans Highlight Platform Challenges South Africa-based TikTok creator BiancaSays3, known for her videos on radical love and change, recently experienced the banning of two accounts with a combined following of over 130,000 users. This incident raises questions about TikTok's content moderation policies and their impact on creators. BiancaSays3's first account reached 50,000 followers before being banned, and her second account amassed 80,000 followers before facing the same fate. The bans, she says, were due to violations stemming from duets and content shared from other creators. "They penalize me for duets or what I post on my stories from other creators, and I get a violation when the original videos have thousands of likes and shares," she explains in a recent TikTok video. These experiences led her to create a backup account (@BiancaSays4) to safeguard her content. While the situation is frustrating for BiancaSays3, her story underscores the challenges faced by many TikTok creators in navigating the platform's complex and often inconsistent rules. The incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of having a backup strategy for online content creators.
