A new bird species, the Voljić maslinar, has been discovered in Serbia near Preševo. This small songbird, previously seen in North Macedonia, Greece, and the Near East, is now nesting in southern Serbia due to climate change. Ornithologists from BirdLife Serbia confirmed the discovery. "It's exciting to see this species expanding its range," said an ornithologist. The Voljić maslinar prefers orchards, oak forests, and olive groves for nesting. Its diet consists mainly of insects, with a special fondness for figs. The discovery highlights the impact of climate change on bird migration patterns and biodiversity.
Ornitolozi Društva za zaštitu i proučavanje ptica Srbije zabeležili su po prvi put prisustvo voljića maslinara u Srbiji.
